Notes

"Julia A. Conrad Jones, wife of Dr. Beverly Jones kept an account of her daily life and work--sewing, preserving, illnesses, preaching, her husband's health. She also discusses her father, relatives, and neighbors. Entries are irregular, with entries for each year except 1863, 1866, and 1868. The diary contains from six to sixteen pages per year. The first section is mostly her meditations on the question of marriage. The remaining volumes are a record of her household activities after marriage".

"Wachovia is the name given to the entire tract bought by the Moravian Church in North Carolina about 1752/55. The village of Rural Hall, in Forsyth County, is almost exactly on the north line of the Wachovia Tract. The South line of Forsyth County follows the old Wachovia line from the East to where it borders Clemmons Township. The West line is just West of Muddy Creek. Walkertown is on the East line.
The Wachovia Tract contained about two thirds of what is now FORSYTH County. Bethabara, Bethania, Salem, Friedberg, Friedland and Hope settlements, were all inside the Wachovia Tract. The deeds to the Wachovia Tract are on the books in the county seat of ROWAN County.

The Moravians selected their lands in ANSON County, they settled in ROWAN County, they went through the Revolutionary War in SURRY County, through the War of 1812 and the Mexican War in STOKES County, through the Civil War in FORSYTH County, -- AND THEY ALWAYS STAYED WHERE THEY STARTED".

  11.  Temperance GERARD

Notes

CONFLICT on parent:
Marriage 2 Susannah SNOWE b: in Lancashire Co.England Married: 21 Sep 1629 in England
Dr. Thomas Gerrard and his first wife, Susanna, daughter of Justinian Snow
" Father: John SNOWE Mother: Edythe UNKNOWN. Recording of the "Conveyance" that can be found in the Lancashire Records tells about the conditions of the dowery of Susannah Snowe made between her father and Thomas Gerard. It is a long, but interesting document that speaks mostly to the land Gerard will receive upon the marriage. Snow was evidently a big landowner in the area.

The story is told that Susannah Snow Gerard lived on the Gerard Plantation, St. Clemont's Island, which is the tip of the peninsula located in southern Maryland in St. Mary's County. Supposedly she,and later, Dr. Tom, were buried there. In later times, by different owners new buildings were erected where once the plantation had been.It is assumed that tombstones were thrown into the water and sank to the bottom where they probably lay today."
