Notes

In Dec 1996 I found the Will in Fairfax Library, and tried to read it, but neither Becky nor I could read it - Becky (younger & better eyes than me) couldn't read the rest of the film on that will either (faded I think), we looked for an abstract but found none.

Index to Fairfax County, Virginia Wills and Fiduciary Records: Robert Whitely, admr. bond, inventory, est. acct. Will Book A1, Part 1, 1742-1752, reel 27, pp. 50, 75, 125, and 134.

Index to Fairfax County, Va Wills and Fiduciary Records in book form which lists an "admr. bond, inventory and est. acct."

Shirl wrote 2/01: Thomas found that his widow Susannah Whitely was administrator of the estate (1744) and that the next year Susannah TAYLOR was the administrator. She had married Henry Taylor. (Those Taylors again) Susannah lived a long time and had a son, named John, by Henry. Thomas also found records in Loudoun County about the settlement of her estate--apparently died about 1787. When Thomas sent me notes about 1980, he had found enough about Robert to reasonably list him as our ancestor, but had not found proof enough to claim anyone further back though he had some names he was researching.

"In Fairfax County, a Robert Whitely died intestate prior to 1744. That year the court records (WB A 50) show his widow, Susanna(h) Whitely, to be the administrator of his estate. Later (WB A 75) there was an appraisal of his estate "at the plantation of Robert Whitely". The appraisal included a boat and one old warming pan. The next year the records show (WB A pages 125 and 134) the administrator to be Susanna Taylor. She had married Henry Taylor, a widower with several children, between 1744 and 1745. (By 1751 they had a son John)".

In 1724 a lady from Chapticoe Forest, St. Mary's Co, Md., by the name of Anne Jameson, willed a Robert Whitely a horse (I have the abstract but it doesn't mention the horse). The Rev War Robert Whitely married to Jane Guilliad (sp) whom I call the "wrong Robert" wasn't born yet. I feel sure this is our Robert but of course I have no proof. Have always thought this would be the clue to finding our Robert but never knew how to pursue it.

Maybe our Robert or kin:
