I. George Taylor I born 1704 in Lancaster Co. VA, married 1723/24 Elizabeth Smith d/o William Smith.


"By George, Mildred had three more children, all duly acknowledged in his will (Loudoun Co, WB D 91 - probated 9 Feb 1789)".


Walter Powers in his deposition ref. 1762, stated: "Ans. There was a family connection, one of my sister married a half brother of Synthia Comptons, and there was a considerable intimacy and we were near neighbors, they were reported to be married & lived as man and wife.
5. Q. by Defts council. how many half brothers & sisters had Scyntha Compton?
Ans. She had five and they all married and had children.
Q. by Pltffs. Council. Who was the reported father of Scyntha Compton?
Ans. George Taylor.
10. Q. by same. Who was the father of the five half brothers and sisters of Scynthia Compton's above spoken of ?

George Taylor I born 1704 married in Fairfax Co. VA Elizabeth Williams d/o William Williams who named her as a legatee in his will April 1752, probated January 12, 1756 in Fairfax Co. On the same date January 12, 1756 George and Elizabeth witnessed the will of John Martin in Truro Parish of Fairfax Co. The names of John's children were so like those of George and Elizabeth they may have been related.

George Taylor's will February 23, 1788; probated February 9, 1789 was signed by Thomas and Isaac Fouch with security bond of 1500 lbs given by Benjamin Mason and Robert Powers. The will named children: Stephen; Frances Cotton; Elizabeth Squires; and Hizziah Fielder; George as co-executor of will. Also named was housekeeper: Mildred Compton and her children Cynthia, Jack and Craven, who went by the name of Taylor. The executors of the will were named as oldest son George and son Stephen. (WB D, Loudoun Co. VA, p 91-93)

George Taylor was above average in wealth as shown in his will and inventory of his estate as follows:
12 Negroes valued at 420 lbs, 10 of whom were named: Dick, Dorcas, Ignatius, Sarah, William, Hezekiah, Charles, Enoch, 1 Negro girl infant and Mulatto named Joseph Cross.
6 horses - value 28 lbs.
14 cattle - value 32 lbs.
20 hogs - value 10 lbs.
10 sheep - value 5 lbs.
1 wagon - value12 lbs.
10 yds. Calico - value 4 lbs. 7 sh. 6 pence

Also named in the will were 3 spinning wheels, given to his family, and his plantation.


A record in VA State Library states: "To George Taylor for 325 lbs beef furnished under Act for Procuring Provisions for the Army, 6 lbs. 5 sh."


Another item shows that George owed "a debt with interest due September 15, 1776, 12 lbs., 12 sh., 6 pence" a merchant of Dumfries, VA, who as a Loyalist, returned to England and presented the bill in 1800, long after George was deceased. Small claims were allowed under the Treaty of Amity between America and Great Britain against American citizens who accrued such debts during the war. (KY Genealogies, Vol. II, No. 1- July - September 1960, compiled by Cecil Goode, Glasgow, KY) Payment for the above claim was allowed by Loudoun Co. VA court March 1782."
