Rice HOOE II

ABT 1640 - BEF 1 Oct 1694

ID Number: I72012

  • RESIDENCE: Stafford Co. VA
  • BIRTH: ABT 1640, James or Charles City Co. Virginia
  • DEATH: BEF 1 Oct 1694, Stafford Co. Virginia
  • RESOURCES: See: [S2747]
Father: Rice HOOE I "the Immigrant"

Family 1 :
  1. +Rice HOOE III

Notes

"This is Rice Hooe II. One year after his father's death, at about age 16, there is a record of his selling 300 acres "with the advice and consent of his mother and guardian, Mrs. Sarah Hooe, widow." Both he and his mother signed the deed, which is dated December 3, 1656.

His first wife, Susanna Nicholas, was the widow of Richard Nicholas. The family tradition of a wife with the name of Seymour may be because her maiden name was Seymour, but this is unconfirmed. The name "Seymour" was commonly used as a given name in later Hooe generations. When Susannah died is unknown, but records indicate that prior to December 31, 1689, Rice II had married the widow of Thomas Howard. There is no record of children from this second marriage.

The Encyclopedia of Virginia Biography, Vol. V, reports that Rice Hooe II married "Jane Seymour St. Mars, of Norman descent, whose forbears settled in Wales after the conquest."

On April 25, 1671, Rice Hooe II acquired 1000 acres in Stafford County and he soon moved there. He is last mentioned in Charles City County in February 1672/3. He died before October 1, 1694, leaving a will, now lost, in which he devised the 1000 acre tract to his son Rice, who sold it to William Fitzhugh."

Marriage 1 Susanna ?? b: ABT 1644 in Charles City County, Virginia Married: 1660 in Charles City County, Virginia.
