Lucy NASH

ABT 1748 - ABT 1810

ID Number: I44943

  • RESIDENCE: Prince Edward Co. VA
  • BIRTH: ABT 1748, Prince Edward Co. Virginia [S2533]
  • DEATH: ABT 1810, prob.Fayette Co. Kentucky [S2533]
  • RESOURCES: See: [S1597] [S2533] [S3246]
Father: John NASH "the Immigrant"
Mother: Ann OWEN

Family 1 : Peter LEGRAND III
  1.  Nash LEGRAND
  2.  Peter (Pierre) LEGRAND IV

Notes

""On August 17, 1795, John Nash, brother of Lucy (Nash) Le Grand, placed the following instrument on record:
'Whereas John Nash, Sr., . . . on 23 November 1767 . . . conveyed certain slaves for the use of the said Lucy Le Grand, and the said Lucy Le Grand being about to remove with her family to the State of Kentucky, Peter Le Grand, Jr., son of the said Lucy Le Grand, is appointed to take possession of, and manage and overlook the said slaves until I, the said John Nash, shall think proper to revoke said power and trust reposed in him, and he is authorized to carry the said Slaves to the state of Kentucky . . . for the maintenance of the said Lucy Le Grand and her children.

I have not found authentic dates of birth and death of Lucy (Nash) Le Grand.*"

*John McDowell Woodson, of St. Louis, Mo., a genealogist of the Nash family, stated that Lucy Nash, 'supposed eldest daughter of John Nash' (which she wasn't), was born 'about 1745', but that is a surmise. He places the birth of Peter Le Grand as '1740 to 1745,' which is far from correct, as he was of age in 1749, and was a member of the House of Burgesses in 1758. Mrs. Charles Lee Le Noir of Florida gives 1736 as the year of birth of Lucy Nash, but states that the date was copied from a compilation.""

Notes

Old Mt. Plesant Methodist Church: "Southern Methodist Publishing co. 1857. It was found in the Florida State Archives and a copy was sent to me by a friend. It pertains to the Mt. Pleasant Church of Gadsden Co.FL. It was a tribute of respect to The Rev. Gospero Sweet and The Rev. Collins Woodbury, delivered at Salem Church, Gadsden Co., Fl. Oct. 25, 1856. by a member of the quarterly conference of Gadsden Circuit, Florida Conference. It was published by a resolution of the bible classes of the Mount Pleasant Sunday School. It was
published by the southern Methodist Publishing co. 1857. It was given by Charles Munnerlyn, Esq. It states that Rev.Gospero Sweet was in the ministry 62 years and 5 years as a Sunday school superintendent. He evidently preached at the Mt. Pleasant Church because reference is made "When he was no longer able to ride off on horseback to preach, he consented to superintend the Sunday school at Mount Pleasant, where he attended punctually every Sabbath to open the school and see that the scholars were correctly taught the knowledge of God and the way to his eternal favor; and preached whenever the pulpit was not occupied by another." Both Gospero SWEET and Collins WOODBURY died in 1856 and this was a special presentation for both of the reverands." Posted by Peggy Goodwin on Thu, 06 Jan 2000 on rootsweb.com Gadsden Co.
