Crittenden, Thomas Theodore, governor of Missouri, was born in Shelby county, Ky., Jan. 2, 1834; son of Henry and Anna Maria (Allen) Crittenden; and grandson of Maj. John Crittenden; and of Col. John Allen. He was graduated from Centre college in 1855, studied law in Frankfort, Ky., and practised his profession for a number of years in Lexington, Ky., and in Warrensburg, Mo.

Mary TYNER

ABT 1765 - ____

ID Number: I51927

  • RESIDENCE: Elbert Co. GA and MS
  • BIRTH: ABT 1765, prob. Johnston Co. NC
  • RESOURCES: See: [S1852] [S1853] [S1908]
Father: Richard TYNER Sr.
Mother: Abigail (Abby)

Family 1 : John MONACK
Family 2 : James RILEY RYLEY

Notes

"Mary Tyner was born c1765. Most likely in Johnston Co.NC Her father, Richard Tyner, sold his last land in Johnston Co. NC in 1767. Her brother, Joshua Tyner, stated he was born in Wilkes County, GA in 1769.

She was captured by the CREEK INDIANS in a attack on Richard Tyner's home in about 1778-9, while Richard and his son, Samuel, were fighting at the battle of "KETTLE CREEK"? (See "Indian Raid on Tyner Family) Several years later, an Indian trader, John Monack, saw Mary & her sister, Tamar, in an Indian village. Knowing of the attack on the Tyner family, he recognized them as the Tyner daughters. He traded with the Indians for Mary, but, they would not trade for Tamar. Later, John Monack, married Mary Tyner.

John Monack was deceased by Apr. 19, 1796. Mary applied for letters of adm. - granted in May 27, 1796. It shows 250 acres on Cold Water Creek adjoining land of her father Richard Tyner. Mary had one daughter by John Monack, Nancy Monack, who married Simeon Henderson. They had 10 children one of them being, Thomas Banks Henderson. (See letter written by him in 1909, when he was in his 80's."

Part of letter quoted below - "My mother's maiden name was Nancy Monack. She was the only child of John Monack, who was French and came from San Domingo and married my grandmother Mary Tyner, of German or Dutch blood, I know not which. Grandmother afterwards married James Riley and bore only one child who was married to William Bailey, raising a number of children - old ones long since dead & young ones scattered - some in Ark. & some in Tex."
