Aka: Lyttleton "Nathaniel came to Virginia in 1635, having been one of the gentlemen who comprised the company of the Earl of Southampton in the Low Countries in 1625. In 1638 he purchased a tract of land from Edmund Scarburgh, the deed thereto being the first recorded in the Court of Accomack.


In 1640 he was Commander or Chief Magistrate of Accomack, and in 1648 was made joint collector of revenues for Northampton County with Col. Scarburgh.


In 1652 he was a Burgess. Henry Southey, the father of Ann Southey (wife of Nathaniel), was resident in Accomack as early as 1636. In 1640 it was recorded that he and his father-in-law, Mr. Southy, owned thirteen slaves, and that the former sold one for 1,200 pounds of tobacco. This is the first recorded instance of a slave sale in Accomack." Page: line 1A, pp 4-5
