Kentucky Court of Appeals Deed Books A-G Volume 1 by Michael L. Cook, C.G. and Betie A. Cook, C.G. Cook Pub., Evansville Indiana; 1985 page 161-162 P. 160.
Indenture, March 22, 1799, William A. Booth and Rebecca his wife, of Shenandoah County, Virginia to Nimrod Long of Culpeper County, Virginia. Whereas Isaac Hite, Sr., dec'd., did devise to his daughter Rebecca Booth her choice of 1,000 acres of the land which he had in partnership with James Hite in Kentucky, as will more fully appear by reference to the said will recorded in Frederick County, Virginia, therefore, now this Indenture witnesses that William A. Booth and Rebecca his wife, for 100 Pounds, convey to Nimrod Long the aforesaid 1,000 acres. [No descriptions of land or location.] Wit: John Spengler and John Colville. Rebecca Booth relinquished right of dower. Rec: Mar 23, 1799, Shenandoah County, Virginia, and May 28, 1799 by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.

Notes

"Thomas D. Whitely, Whitely researcher, calculated that William must have been born before 1734, judging by his name on legal papers which would have required a legal age by the dates they were written. William leased land on Goose Creek in Loudon County, Virginia, in 1763. Old maps and records show Whitely's Ford in this area".

From Loudoun County Deeds: Recorded 10 April 1765, HENRY TAYLOR and SUSANNA his Wife and WILLIAM WHITELY sendeth greeting: In consideration of the natural love and affection which they have unto MARGARET WHITELY, Daughter to said SUSANNA and Sister to said WILLIAM.

1. A William Whitely was a witness of the will of SARAH LEWIS, will dated Feb. 4, 1778 and probated June 22, 1778 of Loudon Co., Va: "To daughter, SILBY WEST, l mourning ring. To daughter, SARAH MANLY, 1 mourning ring. Rest of estate to daughter, MARY PEAKE, during her life, at her decease to her children. Exr: JOHN PEAKE (son-in-law) Wit: WILLIAM WHITELY, CLEATER SMITH. (p.336)"

"you are right about the Taylor/Tyler/Whitely/Compton quadrangle. Thomas researched that situation, and I have some of his notes about it. I do not have them typed up so I can't cut and paste here I had assumed that Whitely & Compton were married since Alexander was listed as a Whitely. Anyway, they obviously split and each went a separate way without benefit of a second marriage". (josie-check the Quaker records).

"William Whitely, son of Robert, was probably born before 1734 because he witnessed a lease in Fairfax County in 1755 and therefore of legal age (21). He appeared in Loudoun County, Va. records many times between 1757 and 1789".

"William Whitely leased two tracts of land - a total of 312 acres - from Robert Carter in 1763 on the north side of Goose Creek in Loudoun County Virginia (Deed Book C -722-726).
As was typical of some successful colonial landlords, Carter did not sell his land but leased at three pounds annually to William Whitely. However, the lease required that certain improvements be made, such as clearing a suitable pasture land, building a house and barn of certain size and the planting of 50 apple and 50 peach trees. Should the lessee fail to pay his rent on time, the property would revert to the landowner. Thus, for a minimum investment, Carter gained both revenue and improvements. It is probable that this land reverted back to Carter on the death of William Whitely. The approximate location of William's lease is near the present day Oatland Estate. Robert Carter's son, George, built the big house in 1801. Route 15 crosses Goose Creek a few hundred yards southeast of a shallows that was named Whitely's Ford on old county maps. When George Carter made his will in 1841, he referred to Whitely's Ford as a dividing point between his two sons, George Jr. and Benjamin. About a mile or less east of Route 15 was the Goose Creek crossing of the Old Carolina Trail, originally an Indian trail, later called Rogues Road during mid 1800.

William Whitely sold one of his leases in 1783 to Michael Lowe of Maryland. This sale did not list a wife's name. (Deed Book N - 546)

(Abstracts of Wills, inventories and administration's. 1757 -- 1800 Loudon County Virginia
Compiled by Estelle Stewart King): John Jones Estate-Appraisers Wm. Whitely, Joseph Power, Daniel Loftin -9 June 1783 (Loudon County Will Bk. C. Pg 36-38)

William Whitely's last appearance in Loudoun County court records that I found was on February 10, 1789 (Order Book L, page 102)".

"William Whitely made contributions to the Revolutionary War effort. Public Service Claims, Commissioners Book III, page 302, lists his claim for beef furnished, page 331 lists his claims for a saddle and hay furnished. These records were made October 4, 1783 and are on file at the Virginia State Archives in Richmond, Va. His actions entitle his descendants to join various patriotic organizations such as the Daughters of the American Revolution, etc. However, since he left no will, it is difficult to document his children except for one - Nancy (Anne) Whitely.
