"Francis G. STEGER was married 3 times and had 10 children, who intermarried with the DAVENPORT family more than once.

EXECUTIVE JOURNAL, Council of Colonial Virginia, Vol. V, p. 176 records a patent granted to him 4 May 1745 for 400 acres in Goochland he bought before his naturalization. Goochland Co., VA: (from notes of Nelda Steele): Phillip Poindexter granted 400 acres in Goochland Co., at head of Muddy Creek to Francis Stegar on Feb. 12, 1742. The application for patent was deferred until 1745 because Francis was not a naturalized citizen in 1742. This means neither he nor his parents were British citizens.

He later inherited Parrot's Nest on the death of his wife, Ann Perrat. However, after the death of his second wife Ann Barbara Tschiffley, Francis Steger was sued in 1767 by his surviving children by jury trial for failing to distribute 25 slaves, formerly the property of Ann Perratt Steger, to her six surviving children. The court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs. (Cumberland O. B. for 1767-70, p. 49 as reported in "Events in the Life and Times of Francis George Steger" in STEGER FAMILY NEWSLETTER).

During his adult life, many land transactions and lawsuits bearing his name were recorded in Cumberland Co., VA. His will was signed 14 Jan. 1769; date of probate was 27 Feb. 1769. Mentioned were wife Ann Jannett, daughter Keturah King Mariana, and son Samuel. Executors were sons John Parrett Stegar, Thomas Stegar, and Hance Stegar."

" Francis George5 STEGER (Johannas (John) George4, Paul (US)3, Georg2, Johann Paul1) was born 1715 in England or Germany and died 23 Apr 1769 Cumberland Co., VA. He married (1) Ann PERRATT 28 Jun 1737 in St. Phillips Church, Barbados, dau. of John PERRATT and Elizabeth HALES. She was born abt 1719 in England. He married (2) Ann Barbara TSCHIFFY bef 1 FEb 1749/50 in Cumberland Co., VA . She was born abt 1725 and died 1763. He married (3) Ann Jannet STEVENSON 1769 in Cumberland Co., VA. She was born abt 1735, and died abt 1784 in Cumberland Co., VA."

"He came into America around 1741, with both his parents. He acquired a total of 15 to 20 acres of land somewhere between Deep Creek and Willis River, near the old town of Trenholm, Cumberland Co., VA. He also owned land in Richmond, Henrico Co., VA. and an island in the James River which was opposite of Cole's Warehouse. he also had considerable property in England and land in St. Anne's Lane, the Parish of St. John, and he left valuable papers in a bank in Southwark, Surrey Co., England.

Vol 1) Deen Records, pags. 25-26, Cumberland Co., A deed from James ROBERT to Francis STEGER dated 24 Jul 1749 for 400 acres of land on the south side of James River and the north side of Deep Creek. The deed recites, "Frances STEGER of St. James, South Parish, Cumberland."
Vol 3) Deed Records, page 442, Cumberland Co., In a deed from Frances STEGER and his wife, Anna Barbara STEGER to Thompson SWANN."
