Notes

Child John de BEAUCHAMP Born: abt 1331 shown is born after Walter's death!

"However, generous endowments were given to the two younger sons, Walter and John: Walter was granted lands in south-west Warwickshire.

Walter was also to follow in the family's tradition of administrative service; in Prestwich's words he was ‘well schooled in the established tradition of the household’ and was a highly suitable choice for the post of steward of the royal household, an appointment which suited both his bureaucratic and military skills.

Walter was appointed as steward in 1289, became sole steward in 1292, and held this position until his death in early 1303. He served with the king in Flanders and Scotland, fighting alongside Edward in the battle of Falkirk and appears to have been a man much admired for his military prowess, but criticised for his arrogance; the Song of Caerlaverock describes Walter as ‘a knight who would have been one of the best of all, according to my opinion, if he had not been too proud and rashly insolent, but you won't hear anyone talk of the steward without a "but"’."

Sir Walter Beauchamp was the son of William Beauchamp and Isabel Mauduit.1 He was born before 1287. He died in 1303.3
He lived at Alcester, Warwickshire, England.3 He lived at Powick, Worcestershire, England.1

27 Mar 1750 - 18 Aug 1782

ID Number: I74764

  • TITLE: Col.
  • RESIDENCE: Montgomery Co. PA and 1775 Lexington, KY
  • BIRTH: 27 Mar 1750, Montgomery Co. Pennsylvania
  • DEATH: 18 Aug 1782, battle of Blue Licks, Kentucky
  • RESOURCES: See: [S2829] [S3721]
Father: David TODD
Mother: Hannah OWEN

Family 1 : Jane HAWKINS
  1.  Mary Owen TODD

Notes

A. John Todd – b. March 27, 1750 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania d. August 18, 1782 at the battle of Blue Licks, Kentucky. He married Jane Hawkins in Richmond, Virginia in the year 1780. John came to Kentucky in 1775.

"Mary (Todd) Russell, the only daughter of Col. John Todd, whose fortune in land and slaves was estimated to exceed $250,000. In the 1820's there was no legislation to protect married women's property rights in Kentucky. In 1849, the Todd family filed suit for the return of the vast properties of Colonel Todd, claiming that his will (lost in an 1803 fire that consumed the Fayette County clerk's office) ordered that his property be divided among the rest of his family if his daughter Mary had no heirs; the only child of her marriage had died before she married Wickliffe. Todd Heirs vs. Wickliffe continued through lengthy trials until an 1857 Court of Appeals decision allowed the property and slaves to remain in the Wickliffe family, since Colonel Todd's will could not be produced."
