titular King of Scots. "Baliol, Edward de , d. 1363, king of Scotland, son of John de Baliol (d. 1315). Having secured English support for his claim to the Scottish throne, he invaded Scotland in 1332 and was crowned at Scone. He was soon driven out, but Edward III of England came to his active support, and together they defeated forces of the young David II at Halidon Hill in 1334. Baliol then ceded several southern Scottish counties to Edward. He was driven out again, and David, who had been in France, returned in 1341 as king. In 1356 Baliol retired on an English pension, surrendering his title as king to Edward."

Father: Francis "Frank" WALKER "the Immigrant"
Mother: Rebecca LAIRD

Family 1 : Nancy NOEL
  1. +Frances E. WALKER

Notes

"Joseph Walker lived all his life near Scottsville, Va. His obituary includes a recap of his family history.

"In Memory of Squire Joe Walker of Driver's Hill, Fluvanna County, Virginia"

"In the year of our Lord, 1801 (family Bible has date as 1800), off the coast of York, Ireland, the old ship, Liberty, might have been seen drawing in her anchors and unfurling her sails to the breezes, which were to waft her to the shores across the Altlantic. She was freighted with Irish emigrants, going to seek homes and fortunes in the New World.

Among those emigrants was the old Irish patriot, Frank Walker, with his wife and eleven children; and among those eleven children was the subject of this memoir---the beautiful, sprightly little Joe. After nine long weary weeks of suffering and peril, from ocean storms and calms, the good old ship rounded up to the wharf at Wilmington, Delaware, in the United States of North America.

Little Joe followed his aged father to a secluded spot in Buckingham Co., Va., where he remained, receiving the faith of the covenant from that faithful old Calvinist, till the graves by the cottages, hid from mortal view, the earthly remains of his father and mother; then he began, all unaided, to fight for himself the stern battle of life, and to build for himself and the dear ones of his household, that good name which all who ever knew him, so willingly accord.

And most nobly did he struggle on until 5 o'clock A.M. on the 28th day of October, 1878, when, in the 82nd year of his age, he cut loose all earthly moorings, and set sail, on another better ship across the dark sea that rolls all round the world to the blessful haven of eternal repose.

For fifty years he had served the good old Presbyterian church as ruling elder, and the good old Commonwealth as a wise and pure magistrate---his large and interesting family as a kind and devoted husband and father, and all his neighbors as a true and wise counselor.

In the church he was an exemplar of all that was pure and resigned---in the State he was faithful and efficient---in his family and neighborhood he was a beloved companion and friend. Possessing in a high degree the wit and generosity which has always characterized his race, his company was sought by old and young, rich and poor. Always poor himself, he was especially the friend of the needy. 'None ever asked of him bread and received a stone.' And from Governor Walker Gilmer, one of Virginia's noblest sons, whom he so much loved and admired, down to Jim Fody, one of his colored heroes, he was universally respected and admired.

(There was at least one additional paragraph to Joe's obituary that has been lost and probably contained information on his descendents.)
