I believe there is a connection, Rucker to Goff but haven't found one. This Peter & Elizabeth Rucker (1707) were apparently the ones of the Peter Rucker 1743 Will. Interestingly, a Peter & Elizabeth Rucker sold 463 acres to JOHN GOFF in Albemarle Co. (on the James River) [now Amherst Co] in 1751. This Peter was either the son of Peter (1707) or the son of John. (Will 1743)

"May have been born in Alsace, which was a part of France at the time, but the name Rucker is of German or Dutch origin. Some sources state that Peter was a French Huguenot, while others claim he was born in Germany. Sources also give his father as either John or Ambrose Rucker.

1690 Peter Rucker emigrated to America aboard the ship 'The Rising Son' one of four sailing from Gravesend England with 700 passengers. ('The Rising Son' was a French ship captured by the British during a war with the French). The ship wrecked off the Virginia coast outside of Jamestown near the mouth of the James River. Peter and a few others were able to swim to shore.

1704 - April 24 or May 8, Peter Rucker was naturalized with a group of Huguenots, along with his wife Elizabeth Fielding. Recorded in the House of Burgess records of Virgina.

1730 St. Mark's Parish was established in 1730 in Spotsylvania County. Peter and Elizabeth were members.

1734 Orange and Culpeper Counties were formed from parts of Spotsylvania County.

1756 June 15 - Peter Rucker was named as an executor in Thimothy Crosthwait's will. (Orange County Will Book 2, p. 229.

Test: Jonah Gibson. (Source: Orange County, Virginia Will Book 1, p. 299, Probated Feb. 23, 1743) Peter Rucker is on the Rent Rolls of Virginia for 1704 in Essex County.

"Rucker Heritage" compiled by Alice Rucker Allen (1993) and "The Rucker Family" by Sudie Rucker Wood (1932) provided information used for the descendants of Peter Rucker. Other sources are noted.

1704 - April 24 Council of Colonial Virginia considered applications of people, including some French Huguenots, for naturalization. The Council referred to applications to the House of Burgesses, where some appplications including Peter Rucker's, were approved on May 8. The applicants were naturalized "by taking the Oathes, Enjoyned by Law.'' Peter and his wife Elizabeth became naturalized citizens of Virginia. Recorded in the House of Burgess records of Virgina.

1704 Peter recorded in Essex County where he was paying tithes on 500 acres of land near Vawter's Church. His land was below the mill of Samuel Lawson on Occupatia Creek (now called Farmer's Hill Creek) about 30 miles from Fredericksburg, Virginia.

1708 January 28 Peter Coghill and wife Sarah of Essex County, Virginia, leased to Peter Rucker 56 acres of land on a branch of Cockleshell Creek. Peter Rucker also paid the Coghills 2000 pounds of tobacco for 56 acres they deeded to Peter's son John.

1730 St. Mark's Parish was established in 1730 in Spotsylvania County. Peter and Elizabeth were members.

1733/4 February 5 John Rucker of Saint Mark's Parish, Spotsylvania County, Virginia, deeded 420 acres of land to his parents Peter and Elizabeth for their natural lives. This was out of 977 acres patented by John and 1727 in Orange, later Culpeper, later Madison County, Virginia. This land is a few miles north of Ruckersville, Greene County, Virginia.

1734 Orange and Culpeper Counties were formed from parts of Spotsylvania County.

1736 June 15 - Peter Rucker was named as an executor in Thimothy Crosthwait's will. (Orange County Will Book 2, p. 229.
1752 Elizabeth must have died because Peter's slaves were divided among their children."
