A lawyer from minor nobility, Carlo Bonaparte became involved in Corsican politics when he opposed Corsican independence from France.


His support for France allowed his eldest sons Napoleon and Joseph to study in France, opening the way for the former's meteoric rise to supreme power in that country.

WALTON, MATTHEW, congressman. He was a representative in congress from Kentucky from 1803 to 1807, and a presidential elector in 1809. He died Jan. 18, 1819. (Src: Herringshaw's Encyclopedia of American Biography of the Nineteenth Century, page 975).


WALTON, Matthew (cousin of George Walton), a Representative from Kentucky; received a limited schooling; member of the conventions held in Danville in 1785 and 1787; member of the first State constitutional convention in 1792; member of the State house of representatives in 1792, 1795, and 1808; presidential elector on the Democratic ticket of Madison and Clinton in 1809; elected to the Eighth and Ninth Congresses (March 4, 1803-March 3, 1807); died in Springfield, Ky., January 18, 1819; interment in Springfield Cemetery.
