Information from Records of Charles Co., MD: DB G3 P529 - Stephen Compton of Charles County , Maryland, planter, and Mary, his wife, formerly Mary Warren, to Zachariah Compton of same place, planter, sum of 10 shillings consideration, "all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in County aforesaid, and known by the name of Warren's Discovery, containing by estimation 280 acres of land more or less, which said tract of land was devised to the said Mary by her father John Warren..." to hold said tract of land during the natural life of Zachariah Compton "and to or for no other use whatsoever." Witness John Winters and Robert Horney.

This is the only James W. (Kirby) in Alabama during this time that is the right age to be our James W. We know he was 11 in 1850 and is living with C. Kirby. The names on this census record are extremely difficult to read. Needs more research.
