  • RESIDENCE: of Shenandoah and Wythe Co. VA
  • BIRTH: ABT 1750, Shenandoah Co. Virginia
  • RESOURCES: See: notes

Family 1 :
  1. +William "Big Bill" HURST

Notes

A son of Thomas Hurst, who was probably a son of John Hurst, who died in Stafford County, VA, in 1747.

Letter to BF Hurst from JM (James Monroe) Hurst of Lucretia, VA, dated 11 Nov 1895

"My great grandfather on my mother's side, Absolem Hurst, was born in Shenandoah Co., VA.; his wife was also born there. He had three daughters and two sons, William and John when he emmigrated to Wythe Co., VA; near a hundred years years ago. William my mother's father married Mildred Whitlock of Wythe Co., VA., about ninety years ago; eight children were born to him, six daughters and two sons... My grandfather died in 1860 at his
home in Wythe Co., VA., at the age of 86 years; his wife died several years first. John Hurst brother to Wm. married Mary McCarty of the Valley of VA., perhaps a century or more ago and has a numerous offspring who mostly live in S. W. Va. and E. Tenn. Many other Hursts of the same family and nearly related, moved from the Valley of Va. first to Tenn., Ky., and Ga., and from those states to Ohio and Indiana. Many of them live in Putnam Co., Indiana."
