BOOK B-2 Page 40 HENRY HAYNES, Deed from Henry Haynes to Stephen English Feb 27, 1762 100 Acres on Stanton River Wit: John Talbot, G. Scruggs, John Haynes Rec. July 27, 1762 Teste Benj. Howard CBC.

from ancestors of Barbara Smith by Barbara Smith "The Parmenas name came from the Haynes family. Henry's middle initial may have been E.

Brothers may have been William Haynes of Bedford county and Jasper Haynes of Culpeper county, VA., but records of King and Queens counties were destroyed, so this is supposition.

Henry Haynes lived in Bedford county for a few years, then to Prince Edward, then to Pittsylvania county (then known as Henry county) at the time of his death. Henry owned land in Bedford county on Craddock's creek and left it by will to his son, Parmenas. In June 1756 in Pittsylvania county,( record book 1737-1779, page 240) Henry entered 400 acres on Cedar Creek adjoining John Good's land on both forks. Also entered 400 acres on the East ford of Bull Run, adjoining David Wilson. A William Haynes entered 400 acres on Ruddy's creek the same day. In the 1758 Patent book 33:438, Henry Haynes was granted 150 acres on Blackwater River against the mouth of Bull Creek on June 2. This was also in Bedford county. In 1759, it was deeded to Samuel Smith.

Henry English's home place was Penfield in Oglethorpe county.

Records indicate Henry Haynes was a reputable citizen of considerable wealth in Colonial Virginia. In 1724, there was a royal land grant from King George II to Henry Haynes. (Patent Book 14, page 92, September 28, 1728):

"George doth and grant Henry Haynes of King and Queen county, Virginia one certain tract or parcel of land, containing 370 acres lying and being on the branches of South River in St. George's Parish in the county of Spottsylvania beginning at hickory, standing on Mr. Baylor's line on hill dividing Robert Stublefield's line to William Pruets line metes and bounds given."

A land transfer between Henry Haynes and his son-in-law, Stephen English, (Deed book 2, 40, February 27, 1762):

"Henry Haynes of Prince Edward county sold to Stephen English of the Parrish of Russell, Bedford county for 30 (?) 100 acres of land lying on the north side of River Staunton, in Bedford country granted to Henry Haynes by Patent bearing date of March 3, 1761."

Henry Hayne's will is on pages 103-104 of the Will book of Henry county, VA, 1777-1799.

Other legal records including land grants may be found in the following:

1739 Patent book 18:262
1741 Orange county, VA Deed book 6:301
1741 Louisa county, VA deed book A:248-9
1742 Orange county, VA Order book 34, 1743-46
1752 Orange county , VA deed book 12:88
1754 Bedford county, VA county order book 1A:5
1756 Pittsylvania county, VA Record book 1737-1770, page 240
1758 Patent book 33:43B

It is believed Henry Haynes was a brother to William Haynes of Bedford county, VA and to Jasper Haynes of Culpeper county, VA but no firm record. Henry was a restless rover and moved often."
