Gerard BANKS I

ABT 1672 - ABT 1709

ID Number: I74959

  • RESIDENCE: Stafford Co. VA
  • BIRTH: ABT 1672, Stafford Co. Virginia
  • DEATH: ABT 1709, Stafford Co. Virginia [376071]
  • RESOURCES: See: notes
Father: (RESEARCH QUERY) BANKS

Family 1 :
  1. +Adam BANKS
  2. +Gerrard BANKS II

Notes

Spouse: Elizabeth b: 1687 in Stafford, VA Married: 11 APR 1697 in Stafford, VA.

"Gerard Banks, only son and heir of Adam Banks, deceased is bound to Richard Martin to learn the trade of a wear maker for three years. John Rowley of Stafford 200 acres in said county in Pasbitanzy forest adjoining his own land, formerly granted to Adam Banks late of this county deceased, but it not appearing that said Banks had any patent for same "whereas it might be supposed that Gerard Banks son of said Adam Banks might hearafter lay claim to said land he hath by deed conveyed his right by and with the consent of his guardian Richard Martin." Beginning at Dr. Richard Bryant's near Richard Rosyer, Francis Hale's and said Rowley's house, Mar. 4, 1690. Since Gerard Banks was bound for three years to his guardian, he was likely 18 at the time hence born 1672.

Gerard and Elizabeth Banks were living in Stafford County in 1709.

Gerard Banks died between 1709, when Book Z of Stafford Co. ends and 1721, when the first book of King George County records begin. Gerard and Elizabeth had at least two sons, Adam & Gerard. The attribution of these children to them rests partly on elimination. We have seen Dr. William Banks, had no children and that Adam had but one son. Further the land on which Adam and his son lived must have been bought prior to 1721, since no deed in King George records for its purchase. Since Adam must have been barely grown then, and since this land seems to correspond with that purchased in 1674 by Adam Banks from William Heaberd, we posit that Gerard Banks had two sons, Adam the elder, who inherited his father's land, and Gerard. There is also a third son Richard Banks who died at age 23. Richard is buried at Green Banks, Stafford Co., VA.

King George Co. took part of Stafford Co., VA lying on the Rappahannock, above Muddy Creek in 1721 and remained so until 1777. In 1777 King George took from Stafford the Potomas river front, living in exchange the Rappahannock river front above Muddy Creek."

William PENN

ABT 1580 - BEF 1690

ID Number: I5311

Father: WILLIAM PENN
Mother: Margaret RASTALL

Family 1 : Margery
  1.  Catherine PENN
  2.  Martha PENN

Notes

There was a William Penn(e) of Myntie, yeoman, County Gloucester, who married Margaret Rastall, who died in 1592. In his Will written in 1590 he mentioned
George Penn, grandson of his deceased son, William Penn. He also had a son,
Giles Penn who married Joan Gilbeart (they were great grandparents of William
Penn the Founder of Pennsylvania). The deceased son, William Penn, who died in
the late 1580s was described as William Penn of Malmesbury, England, who married
Margaret Rastall.

This William Penn is said to have been the William Penn who died testate circa
April 1676 at Kinsale, Ireland. He must have owned or lived on land nearby to
(or part of the same lond) which had been granted to his cousin, Sir William
Penn by Cromwell. His Will remains in an index of Will of Ireland, however,
the Will itself was destroyed in the Irish Revolution in 1922 (I believe). He
is sometimes termed Ensign, by 1667 he was Clerk of the Cheque at Kinsale.
