Jacques de BOURDEAUX "the Immigrant"

ABT 1630 - Dec 1699

ID Number: I86930

  • RESIDENCE: France and Charleston, SC
  • BIRTH: ABT 1630, Grenoble, France
  • DEATH: Dec 1699, Charleston, South Carolina
  • RESOURCES: See: [S3225]

Family 1 : Madeline GARILLOND
  1. +Judith de BOURDEAUX

Notes

Father: Everaud* de Bourdeaux b. About 1602 in Dauphine, France
Mother: Catherine Fresne b. About 1602 in France

RootsWEB: One entry in the Ravenel list reads as follows:

"Jacques de Bourdeaux, ne a Grenoble, fils de Evremond de Bourdeaux et de Catherine Fresne. Madeleine Garillond sa femme. Madeleine, Judith, leurs filles nez a Grenoble. Anthoine, Jacques, Israel, enfans nez en Caroline."

This roughly translates that Jacques was the son of Evremond de Bourdeaux and Catherine Fresne. Their daughters, Madeleine and Judith, were born in Grenoble, France. Sons Anthoine, Jacques, and Israel were born in Carolina.
Since these French families were small in number at the time, we can isolate each Madeleine Garillond that we find. Most Bordeaux researchers do not realize that our ancestor Madeleine, who married Jacques, was married 3 times. Here is another entry from the Ravenel List:

"Paul Pepin, natit de Grenoble fels d Alexandre Pepin et de Madelaine Garillon."

The above entry tells us that Madelaine was also married to Alexander Pepin. Thus far, we have her surname varied as Garillond and Garillon.

Now comes two more entries that will thrill people who have no idea that this information existed. It was not in the papers of Milton L. Jackson and therefore most do not have it.

"Pierre La Chavalieu, natif de St. Lo, en Norimantie, fils de Roll and le Chevallier et d Estes Dallain, ses opere et mere, et Madalainne Garillion, sa femmes, natit de Grenoble, fille d Israel Garillion et de Susanne Saunier, sa mere."

Madeleine Garillond/Garillon/Garillion (which one is the correct surname???) was the daughter of Israel Garillion and Susanne Saunier.
Another entry which I failed to copy in French. I simply translated it:
"Madeleine Saulnier, sister to Susanna Saulnier, daughter of Jacques Saunier and Judith Baudon, wife of Noe Royer, son of Sebastion Royner and Marie Rendon."

Assuming that this is not a Susanna from a younger generation (which is highly unlikely with the small number of French Huguenots), we can presume that Susanne Saunier who married Israel Garillion was the daughter of Jacques Saunier and Judith Baudon.

Notes

#8070: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. "HON. ROBERT MALLORY (deceased) was born in Madison County, Va., November 11, 1815, the son of William and Mary (Gibson) Mallory, also natives of Virginia, but of English parentage. He was educated at the University of Virginia, and in 1838 came to Kentucky and
began the practice of law at New Castle, where he remained four or five years, and then on account of ill health he removed to a farm in Oldham County.

On January 28, 1840, he married Miss Matilda, daughter of Maj. William and Susan H. (Gibson) Taylor, natives of Virginia, but early settlers of Oldham County, Ky. William Taylor was a general surveyor, and a major in the State Militia, and died in 1836, his widow following two years later, in 1838.

R. Mallory left four children: Bettie W., Robert, Mattie and Fannie. Robert Mallory in early life had been a Whig, and was a delegate to the national convention that nominated Gen. Zachary Taylor for the presidency. On the dissolution of the Whig party he became a Democrat, and was elected to Congress in 1860, and twice re-elected by the Democrats of the Louisville District, and in that body was a member of the Ways and Means Committee. In 1876 he was appointed by the governor a commissioner to the Centennial Exposition at Philadelphia. His death occurred on August 11, 1885.

Mrs. Mallory was born April 30, 1820, and is a distant relative of both President Taylor and President Madison. She owns and resides upon the old homestead, comprising about 500 acres, near Ballardsville."
