Notes

Notes for MICHAEL EHART, father of CATHERINE EHART RUCKER: This material is from Edith Copeland Rucker's(my cousin) papers:

Michael Ehart, father of Catherine, wife of George Rucker, was quite a patriot, according to Ann Waller Reddy He gave supplies to help keep the revolutionary army in the field. (This service will admit one into the DAR.) The certificate reads:
"Culpepper County/ I do herby certify that I have received for public use of Michael Ehart three hundred pounds beef for which payment at the rate of two pence per pound shall be made according to law passed last May. Given under my hand and seal this 16 day of October, 1781.
Berkett Davenport, C.P.L."

(The Revolutionary forces accepted, or frequently confiscated, food, wagons, horses, etc., and issued paper vouchers as receipts. Since the Americans won , these vouchers were submitted at the county court level for reimbursement, but payment was usually slow in coming.--STC's note)

From "Hening's Statutes," Vol. 7: Both Michael Erhart and Michael Erhart, Jr. are listed as due pay for service in the French and Indian Wars.

Will of Michael Ehart, from a photostatic copy belonging to Hastings Harrison of Dallas, TX. This copy was certified by C.T. Guinn of Circuit Court of Culpepper Co. VA, dated August 28, 1953, and bears the seal of said court. (This corrects Sudie Rucker Wood's statement in "The Rucker Book" that the father of Catherine Ehart Rucker was Abraham Ehart, who was, in fact, her brother.)

WILL OF MICHAEL EHART EXACT copy as follows: "In the name of God Amen I Michael Ehart being in a low state of health and but in proper sense mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for same and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life causes me to make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form is following
