(firstly) 24th December, 1776, Jane BURRIS, dau. of Thomas and Frances (TANDY) BURRIS of Orange County, Va. (Thomas BURRIS had been a soldier both in Braddock's War and the Revolutionary War); m. (secondly) Chloe SHIPP of Clark County, Ky., 24th December, 1811.

carved on his tombstone, longest one on a Clark County, Kentucky monument:
"In memory of James Quisenberry born in Orange County, Virginia,
of English parentage, June 13, 1759. In the 18th year of his age he
intermarried with Jane Burris of the same county by whom he had seven sons and
six daughters. On the 24th of Dec., 1811 he was married to Chloe Shipp of
Clark Co., Ky. by whom he had 11 children. In the early part of his life he
professed religion. In 1783 he moved to Kentuck and not long after commenced
preaching the Gospel of the Redeemer which he continued zealously to do until
his departure the 5th of August, 1830, whose soul made meet for glory was take
to Immanuel's bosom being 71 years, 1 mo. and 22 days.
Like all good men by some despised - Like them by many others loved and prized.
But theirs shall be the ever lasting crown - Not when the world, but Jesus Christ will own."
(This graveyard is located about 5 miles south of Winchester on Two-Mile Creek, half-way between Flanagan and Elkin Station, on L. & N. railroad. Rev. Quisenberry'w home was on the east side of the creek. The burial ground is on the west side on a small hill. Inscriptions were copied many years ago, by 1970 the stones had disintegrated.)"

His children pronounced the name: "CUSHENBERRY". So did the whole community; it wasn't until around World War II that people in Clark County began to pronounce it "Quisenberry".
