That he had residence in Macon County, Tennessee in 1855 and at Logansport, Hamilton, Ill. in 1871.

Macon County TN is where Humphrey Thomas and his son, Hiram L. Thomas, lived. Here is what the census has: Lafayette Precinct, October 18, 1860.
#731--E. Harrison 18, male, b. in Tn. living with the M. Vaughn family.
#819--J. Harrison 18?, male, laborer b. in Tn.
H. Harrison 13, male, laborer b. in Tn. Both living with the J.H. Pyron family.
#820--J. Harrison 64 carpenter Tn.
Nancy 47 Tn. cannot read or write
Margaret 14 Tn.
Sylvania 12 Tn.
Lorenzo 10 Tn.
Haley 8 Tn.
P.F. (female) 4 Tn.
#824--G. Harrison, 21, male, laborer, b. Tn. living with the L. Lee family.
#887--P. Harrison 22 Farmer Tn.
A.M. 21 Tn.
N.E. 1 Tn.

It looks like they are off by 10 years on Nancy's birth. Also, these are all of the Harrisons in Macon County in that year. There were none in 1850. I think these are different children of John and Nancy Harrison. (1st wife's children?)
The one with the letter "G" is probably a Gideon. I saw a Gideon Harrison in another record in this sparce county. After looking through all of the available records, I did find a John Harrison who was in the court minutes. Nothing but a posting of the court record was made. It is evident to me that the middle names of some of the children were used. This happened a lot in my other family lines. It is confusing going from one name to another when they are the same person.

3. I still have not found John and Nancy in the 1870 Census of Illinois. I think this census would help solidify the 1860 census. I did find, in White Co., Ill., Hiram Harrison and his new family in the Enfield Precinct:
#164--Hiram Harrison 21 male works at sawmill Tn.
Laura 19 female Ill.
Charles 5/12 male (Jan.) Ill.

4. I also ran across Humphrey Harrison in the Civil War index. He served for Co. C, 40th Ill. Inf. He enlisted in August 1861 and was a private. He filed for pension September 17, 1883 Application #495517 and Certificate #361619. His widow, Emeline, filed July 24, 1908.
Application #900954 and certificate #667863. It might be well to send for these records. They may tell something about the family. By the way, the Hamilton Co., Ill. index called Humphrey "H.R."

In Hamilton County, Illinois. Nancy and some of their children in the 1880 Census.
Nancy Harrison age 58 born Tenn. Father born Va. Mother born Carolina
Hiram L. Harrison 32 Tenn. Tn. Tn.
Eugenia Harrison 22 Tenn. Tn. Tn.
John Harrison 21 Tenn. Tn. Tn.
Ormelia F. Harrison 18 Tenn. Tn. Tn.
Emma Harrison 8 Ill. Tn. Ill.
Charles E. Harrison 10 Ill. Tn. Ill.

Hiram, Eugenia, John, and Ormelia were named as Nancy's children. Emma and Charles were named as her grandchildren. Living a few houses away was the Humphrey Harrison family. He was 37 and born in Tenn.

In marriages of Hamilton County, I found the following:
Humphrey Harrison md. Mrs. Emaline Morris, a widow, on August 7, 1864.
Hiram Harrison md. Laura Malone on October 1, 1869.
Arena Harrison md. John Williams on September 15, 1859.
Martha E. Harrison, dau. of Riley Harrison, md. George W. Hunt on February 2, 1865.
Zoolaby Harrison, dau. of John and Nancy Harrison, md. William A. York on February 11, 1866.
Elizabeth Harrison, age 18, md. Eli York October 13, 1866.
Sarah J. Harrison, dau. of Riley Harrison, md. Chas. C. Grover on November 3, 1867.

John Harrison family NOT in the 1870 Census of Hamilton County. It would seem they would have had to be living nearby because of the marriages which took place in Hamilton County in
the 1860's. I also looked in Gibson County, Tennessee for the family in 1850 and 1860 without results. I looked in the census index for Tennessee for those two years without finding them. If the census of 1880 is correct as to the birth places of the children, then they had to be in Tennessee in 1850 and 1860. I also found no information on them in Sangamon County, IL.

Obit of Julia Mae shows b in Gibson Co. TN: A Joel Wilson Harrison b 1825 d. Gibson Co. TN 1898 m. 1st Elvira A. Hutchens and then to a Elizabeth J. McWhorter, b 1820 AL, dau of Hance McWhirter & Anna Patton. d. Gibson Co. TN. m. 3rd Teely Ford and 4th Mary T. Conley. Anna Patton was a sister to Elizabeth Patton who m. Davy Crockett, dau of Col. Robert Patton of Buncombe Co. NC also buried in Gibson Co. TN. The place of birth is a bit confusing since Gibson County, Tennessee is not near Nashville. A better bet on their home in Tennessee would be near the Humphrey Thomas family in Smith and Macon Counties. They are both near Nashville.

Nancy would be b abt 1822, she was 16 yrs old when they m.26 Apr 1838, Athens, Limestone Co. AL. John would have been about 42 when they m. he must have another wife and maybe other children. Nancy Thomas's father b VA and Mother b Carolina. (from 1880 IL census). Nancy Thomas Harrison's children we have are b 1846 - to 1862 all in TN. Her husband, John, d. 26 Feb 1876. My James H.'s wife Elizabeth b S. Carolina; Nancy Thomas's mother may be a sister to my Eliza.

From our record: "John Harrison was in the War of 1812 in Capt. Fleman Hodges company enlisting at Huntsville, AL. pension # 3870 issued 1871. Several land transactions are in the records of John Harrison with Joseph Harrison, and sold land to Lucas in 1829 (land he got from Joseph) and disappears from the census after 1830 probably removing to IL. Their home in IL was about 2 miles north of Logansport. This may be the same John Harrison that married Elizabeth McLung (McClung?) in 1818 in Huntsville, AL, and Nancy would be his second wife."

Now it seems that they did not go to IL but to TN instead and finally IL abt 1864. Perhaps they were Union sympathizers - kids may have been on Union side - got land in IL for Civil War service?

Notes

"Alexander Magruder born in Belliclone, Maderty Parish, Perthshire Scotland about 1610, may have married 1st in MD Margaret Braithwaite(daughter of Captain William Braithwaite, member of the 1st General Assembly and Acting Governor of MD who died about 1649 and Helenor Stephenson), 2nd before 1663 Sarah who died after Mar. 31, 1671, 3rd about 1672 Elizabeth Hawkins, died in 1677 at his home "Anchovie Hills" in Calvert Co., MD.

He was an officer in the army of King Charles II and captured at the Battle of Worcester on Sept. 3, 1651 (a year to the day after the Battle of Dunbar) (It is possible that he was captured earlier at Dunbar or at Preston in 1648). Sent with other Scottish prisoners to MD by way of Barbados arriving in the Chesapeake in the Spring of 1652. Acquired 1000s of acres of land in various MD counties. He is considered to be the ancestor of most if not all Magruders in the US prior to 1800.

His children by 2nd wife were James Magruder (b about 1658, d Dec. 23, 1685. No children), Samuel Magruder, John Magruder (b 1662, d after 1685. No children

Children of Alexander Magruder and Margaret Braithwaite are:
