James LEAGUE Sr.

ABT 1700 - ____

ID Number: I97289

  • RESIDENCE: Amelia Co. VA
  • BIRTH: ABT 1700
  • RESOURCES: See: [S3548]

Family 1 :
  1.  James LEAGUE Jr.
  2.  William LEAGUE
  3.  Bartholomew LEAGUE
  4.  Aaron LEAGUE

Notes

"James League appeared in Amelia County first in 1739. He was soon behind in paying his debts. In 1742 Amelia County court granted Woodson a judgement against League. Sheriff Thomas Tabb was looking for League in August 1742 but reported to the court that “James League is not to be found in my bailiwick.” Tabb evidently arrested League in February 1742/3 and he spent twenty days in jail until the plaintiff ordered Tabb to set him free. Presuming his sons would have appeared as tithables in Amelia County about the same time as James Jr., they are as indicated below.
Other individuals living in Amelia County were Edmund League who, with Bartholomew League, witnessed a deed between William Jesse and William Foster in 1779. Rhoda League married Joel Cheatham in Amelia County 14 November (bond) 1785. In 1779 Amelia County bound out “poor children” Robert Fargus League, Richard League, Martha League, Sarah League, and Nancy League.

Notes

"On 22 June, 1871 in McLennan Co TX Thomas George Malone m. Mrs Sarah Elizabeth Holly Woodruff. I have the pension application that she filed for a widow's pension for his Civil War service. She stated that she was borned in AL and had been in TX over 40 yrs ( going from memory so I am just guessing). Now that has always peaked my interest because the uncle of Thomas George Malone married Mary Jane Woodruff in Williamson Co TN in 1836/37. All my life I heard that our Woodruff ancestors came from AL.
Howell and/or Howell S. Woodruff was either the father or brother of Mary Jane.

McLennan Co. TX Sarah, and sons are there on the 1880 census.
