  1. +Edmund SCARBOROUGH of "Seaside"
  2.  Charles SCARBOROUGH Knt.

Notes

Father: Henry Scarburgh b. 21 Sep 1565 in North Walsham, Norfolk County, England; Mother: Mary Elizabeth Humberstone b. About. 1568 in Norwich, Norfolk County, England

EDMUND SCARBURGH, son of Henry and Elizabeth Scarburgh of Walsham, County Norfolk, England, was baptized 25 Dec. 1584, attended Mr. Brigg's School, Norwich, was admitted sizar at Caius College, Cambridge, 15 April 1602, and studied law, probably at one of the Inns of Court, where, according to his father's will, he was to remain until he had taken "the degree of a Barester." The date of his coming to Virginia is uncertain but he appears to have been first in the colony by 1620 or 1621, without his family. He was established on the Eastern Shore by 1630 when he was Burgess from Accawmacke, as he was also in 1632 and 1633. At the court held for Accawmack, 7 Jan. 1632/3, he was named as one of the commissioners.
He married, in England, Hannah (Butler) and before coming to Virginia the family lived in the Parish of St. Martin's-in-the-Field, Middlesex, where four of the children
were baptized. Edmund1 Scarburgh died intestate after April 1634, his last appearance at court, and before 9 Jan. 1634/5 when Hannah Scarburgh, widow, sold cattle to Capt. Thomas Graves. The 200 acres in Accomack, on "Maggitye" Bay, patented 28 Nov. 1635 by Edmund Scarburgh, then aged 18 years, in right of "his late father," his mother Hannah, himself and Robert Butler, was probably the home place.

Notes

Recently, America observed the 136th Anniversary of the Second Battle of Manassas during the Civil War. The Battle occurred on land originally owned by Thomas Stribling, I, and his wife Elizabeth Taliaferro Stribling. You may visit the Manassas battleground at
http://www.nps.gov/mana/events.htm
Thomas Stribling was in VA at least by 1710 where on 4 September,1710, he purchased clothes in Richmond Co., VA (Commercial Accounts Book, Vol. R-17, p. 65--from George Taliaferro Stribling). These clothes COULD have been his wedding clothes--so it is possible that Thomas and Elizabeth were married as early as 1710 in which case Elizabeth Taliaferro may have been born about 1695 since 15 was considered to be the ideal marrying age at that time.

On 17 July, 1727, Thomas Stribling received a grant of 1,050 acres near Bull Run, Prince William Co., VA. According to Mr. George Taliaferro Stribling, this property which is now engulfed by the city of Manassas, lies on the northwest side of Manassas slopping northwestward toward the Manassas National Battlefield Park. The log house in which Thomas Stribling and his wife Elizabeth Taliaferro Stribling, Sr, lived was at the site of the present Manassas Presbyterian Church, "Rosemont." Later, the home of the Lewis family occupied the Stribling homesite before it was torn down to make room for the church. The Lewis family burying ground at "Rosemont" has been preserved and walled by the church. In addition to Lewis graves, it contains two unidentified graves set apart from the Lewis graves. Mr. George Taliaferro Stribling is convinced that these two graves are the graves of Thomas Stribling, Sr., and his wife, Elizabeth Taliaferro Stribling.

"Aka: Stripling (re: will of Robert Taliaferro, brother in law-At the time the will was written "b" and "p" were very similar. They were made with a long vertical stroke with a ball attached.Sometimes the ball was near the top (as in a p) and sometimes it was near the bottom (as in b). In this document, the ball definitely is near the top.)"

"1727 Thomas was granted 1050ac of land Stafford Co Va bet Broad Run of Oscaquan and Bull Run. He lived there around 20yr then went onto Frederick Co Va & purchased 600ac near Winchester.
