"James Moss’ came from England about 1719 to Virginia, where he married Elizbeth Henderson, whose ancestors came from Scotland. They had a son, Hugh Moss who was commissioned Captain of militia in Goochland county in 1760; and was Maj in the Continental Line In 1770. He served through the greater part of the Revoltionary War, and died in 1780 from the effects of wounds received in battle.
He was married, by the Rev. John Clay (father of the great
statesman, Henry Clay), to Jane Ford, daughter of Thomas Ford
and Keturah Wynne. They had a daughter, Keturah L. Moss,’ who
married General James Taylor of Kentucky; also a son, Dr. James
Wynne Moss who married 535 Mary Woodson, 7 daughter of 242 Major
Josiah, and 252~Elizbeth Woodson. (See Cabells and their kin.).
