From West Virginia History, Vol. 3: "Elvina Chapman, wife of Albert G. Pendleton, was born in Giles county, Virginia, in April, 1811, and died in September, 1868. She was a daughter of Henley Chapman and Mary Alexander Chapman. Henley Chapman was commonwealth's attorney of Giles county, Virginia, from the formation of the county in 1806, until he voluntarily retired in 1850; was a member of the Virginia state senate, and Virginia constitutional convention of 1829-30. He married Mary Alexander, from Monroe county, Virginia (1863 now West Virginia). Henley Chapman was born in Giles county, in 1778, and died in March, 1864. His wife died in 1841. He was a son of John Chapman and Sallie Abbott, his wife, who migrated from Culpeper county, Virginia, and settled at the mouth of Walker's creek, in Montgomery county, now Giles county, in 1771."

This line of Hodges may connect to the Long Bluff, Old CHERAW/Marlboro SC Hodges. They were in Beaufort NC and perhaps Winyaw, Frederick Parish, SC, and perhaps after the Rev War moved to the SC back country.


ROBERT HODGES SR. is first noted in the Isle of Wight County, Virginia records of 1672 within the recorded will of ROGER HIGGINS (Wills and Administrations Book 2, Page 113). His executor was his "brother" ROBERT HODGES SR.. A legacy was given to the eldest son of ROBERT HODGES SR., who was unnamed (ROBERT HODGES JR.); to the second son of ROBERT HODGES SR., named ELIAS HODGES and to the third son of ROBERT HODGES SR., named ROGER HODGES.


ROBERT HODGES SR. died intestate on 9 November 1687 (Will and Deed Book 2 Page 272).


ROBERT HODGES JR. was a witness to a land deed from GEORGE BRANCH JR. in 1688 (Deed Book 1, Page 4). He was a member of the Jury on the 31 January 1694 and recorded on the 1704 Quit Rent List - as was his brother, ROGER HODGES (Quit Rents of Virginia in 1704 by Anne Smith, Page 44/45).


CONFLICT: John Hodges, Jr. settled in Goochalnd Co. VA and Robert Hodges, Sr. died 1687 in Parish, Isle of Wight, VA.. John Hodges m. Mary, widow of Jno. Miller -
Children: John, Jr. b 1735, Ann, b 1733, Elizabeth b 1739.
John's will 1778, he m. Rebecca Cherry d. 1790.
John, Jr. b 1747 was Rev Sol. in Capt. STANDARD's Co. Kershaw Dist. SC and m. Anna Magee.(WRONG!CONFLICT see other John Hodges of Long Bluff, Old Cheraw Dist. SC)
