Marjorie Lavaughn Vencil Stoops, 80

ZANESVILLE -- Marjorie Lavaughn Vencil Stoops, 80, of Dresden, died at 6:34 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Genesis Bethesda Hospital.



She was born May 10, 1924, near Otsego, the daughter of the late L. Burwell and Orpha Miskimen Vencil. Mrs. Stoops was a 1942 graduate of Otsego (Monroe Rural Township High School) and Meredith Business College. She worked in various offices in the area. She was a Baptist by faith, a member of the Otsego Alumni Association and a 50-plus year member of the Eastern Star. Mr. Stoops was a former member of the Dresden Grange, Jefferson CCL and Life Reading Club. Her hobbies were music and geneology.



Surviving are her husband, Russell Stoops, whom she married Oct. 4, 1947; a son, James R. Stoops of Hilliard; two granddaughters, Laura (JD) Reyes Sr. and Christine (Brett) Carothers of Hilliard; eight great-grandchildren, John David Reyes Jr., Jacob Reyes, Jamie Reyes, Joshua Reyes, Jaycee Reyes, Sidney Carothers, Sarah Carothers and Matthew Carothers; and several nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Lee Mowry; and a brother, John Harper.



Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at The Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave.



Services are 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ricci Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in Dresden Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego First Baptist Church, 11770 Plainfield Road, New Concord, OH 43762.
