Bainter
Otsego, February 10, 1885

Seldom has our community been called upon to mourn the loss of one more universally respected and beloved than was our friend and neighbor, Mrs. John B. Bainter, who departed this life February the fourth, 1885. Mrs. Bainter, whose maiden name was Margaret Gaumer, was born, October 28th, 1813, in Adams township, this county, became a member of the Lutheran Church at New Hope when seventeen years of age, was united in marriage to Mr. John B. Bainter one year later, and moved on the farm in this township where they have since continued to live until her death. She was the mother of seven children, four sons and three daughters six of whom are now living. Mrs. Bainter was not only a professed follower of the Savior, but we think a true one as exhibited all through her life. She was noted for her generosity and kindness to all, and these noble traits she seems to have handed down to her children. A more affectionate family we have never met. Mrs. Bainter lived to see all her children useful members of the church, all married and respected in the community in which they live. They did what they could to prolong the life of their dear mother, but her time had come and after a five week illness she was called to her long home. None will miss her more than her aged companion with whom she had lived in happy wedlock for over fifty-three years. Her obsequies were conducted by the Rev. Weber, who selected these words from the first epistle of John, third chapter, and second verse: "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that when we shall appear, we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is."

Her remains were then interred in the Cemetary at the New Hope Lutheran Church there to await the resurrection morn.
