News/Obit* 23 July 1986  George B. Whinery, 64, of 81 E. College St., died at the Alliance Health Care Center at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday following a one year illness. He had lived in the area all of his life. A retired bacteriologist, he had worked at the Canton City Health Department.
He was born in Butler Township, Columbiana County, on Nov. 2, 1921, a son of the late Marius R. and Anna Bartges Whinery.

He was a member of the Science Hill United Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Stark County Wilderness Center, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Saxon Lodge.
Mr. Whinery was a 1950 graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor of science degree. He also was a member of the Red Coats and the Alliance City Hospital Auxiliary.

He leaves his wife, Doris Jeanne Wells Whinery, whom he married June 17, 1941; a son, Richard. A. Whinery of Chillicothe, two sisters, Mrs. John (Alice)Williams of Salem and Mrs. Delma (Geneva) Sanor of Minerva; three brothers, Wallace D. Whinery of Rittman, Clarence R. Whinery of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Norman C. Whinery of Salem; one granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
