News/Obit* 11 April 1893  Obituary,

Mrs Decker Dead
After manifold suffering her --- --- in death

Mrs Susanna Decker, wife of the late Dr. Henry Decker, died early Saturday morning at her residence just west of town. She had been an invalid for several years and manifold were her sufferings which death alone could and did cure. Mrs Susanna Decker nee Adams, was born Oct., 25, 1817. At the age of 18 she was baptised in the Lutheran church and a few years afterward became a member of the M. E. church during a revival conducted by Rev. Mitchell.

In the year 1836 she was married to Dr. Henry Decker whose death occured a little over a year ago.

Mrs Decker was a very conscientious woman and always met her obligations with exact promptness. She paid her pastor the full amount expected of her for the year, only a short time before her death which is an example of her desire to support the church. She frequently spoke of her husband and repeatedly expressed a desire to go home.

The funeral services were held yesterday in the Adamsville M. E. church and were conducted by Rev. H. H. Westwood who spoke from the following text: "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you that God should raise the dead". At the conclusion of the service the remains were taken to the cemetary and interred.

Appeared in the Adamsville Register, April 11, 1893.

News/Obit after 11 April 1893  Obituary,

Susanna Decker was born Oct. 25, 1817, and died in Adamsville, Ohio, April 8, 1893, aged 75 years, 5 months and 17 days. August 19, 1836, she was married to Henry Decker, M.D., whose death ocurred a little over a year ago. In 1844 she was converted at a protacted meeting held by Rev. D. P. Mitchell and united with the church, being the first convert at the organization of the Adamsville Methodist Episcopal church. She was a faithful and consistent member of the church. As a wife she was loving; as a mother devoted -- doing all in her power for her family. She was a christian not in name only, but in reality. The means of grace she highly cherished, and as far as possible was faithful in her attendance upon the same. She always met her obligations to the church promptly. For several years she had been an invalid suffering greatly in body and mind. At intervals she spoke of her husband and expressed a great desire to go home. In the early morn that summons came which released her from all her sufferings, and calmly she passed away from earth to heaven. She leaves several sons, daughters, brothers and sisters to mourn her loss.

        Gently!

She is sleeping

She has breathed her last

        Gently!

While you'ra weeping

To heaven she has passed

Her Funeral was preached by the writer April 18*, in the presence of a large and sympathizing congregation.

H. H. Westwood

Appeared in the Adamsville Register, April 1893
