Funeral services for Orval G. Werts, Sr., 96, of Chetek will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the First United Methodist Church at Barron. Burial will be in Sumner cemetery at Cameron. Mr. Werts was born October 7, 1885, at Russell, Iowa. He died November 23 at the Barron Community Memorial Hospital. Mr. Werts was a graduate of Russell (Iowa) high school and Iowa State University at Ames. He was married to Eva Marie Curtis in 1908 at Russell. They operated a large dairy farm near Russell and delivered milk to the city. In 1910 they moved by immigrant train to Powell, Wyo., where they homesteaded 80 irragated acres. They operated a dairy farm there until 1913 when they moved to Cameron where they owned and operated a large dairy farm and sheep ranch for 54 years. Mr. Werts was a member and had served as president of the Barron Creamery; had served on the board of directors of the Barron Production Credit Association and was clerk of the Greenwood school district for 13 years. He was a member of the Canton Methodist church and had served of the board of the church. He was postmaster of Canton form 1946 to 1961. He is survived by one son, Glenn of Chetek; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Noonan of Peshtigo. Two sisters and a son, Herbert, preceded him in death.
