OBITUARY - MARTIN

Elizabeth Huff Martin was born in Muskingum county Ohio, on the 31st day of January 1822, and died July 3, 1908, being in the 85th year of her age. She was married to George Martin in Zanesville, May 16, 1840. This happy union was fruitful in the birth of eight children, six sons and two daughters, all of whom survive except the first born who died in infancy. The deceased began the Christian life in early womanhood, receiving holy Baptism at the hands of a minister of the Disciple denomination as the result of a series of revival services at Ridgeville. In 1862 she was admitted to the fellowship in the Salt Creek Baptist church where she continued a faithful communicant till 1881 when removing to Zanesville she was transferred to the First Baptist church of that city in which she held her membership till the day of her death. The loss of her devoted husband and life companion in Oct. 1895, was a severe blow to her, and she has looked forward to our own death with calm resignation and even desire. Her death was sudden and apparently painless, although she had been a long sufferer from an affliction which baffled the skill of the physicians, retaining the full posession of reason till the last. She is survived by five sons and two daughters, twelve grand children and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday forenoon at the sonora Baptist church by Rev. J. S. Scott pastor of the Adamsville Baptist church. The remains were interred in the Greenwood cemetery at Zanesville.

Appeared in the Adamsville Register, July 1908
