Memorial Services for Kenneth William Smith, age 62 of Destin, Florida, will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2001, at 6:00 p.m.; Grace Community Church, 8611 Woodlawn Road, Greenwood, South Carolina.

Mr. Smith died of a heart attack while worshiping at Christian International Family Church, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida on Sunday, September 9, 2001. As the only son of the late Kenneth Lee Smith and Clara Lee Smith, he was born January 8, 1938, in Steubenville, Ohio. He attended college at Murray State University where he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha and Sigma Tau Epsilon. He served as a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers Reserve in the Ohio National Guard. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas after 33 years of service as a Regional Sales Manager. Mr. Smith belonged to the Atlanta Athletic Club, Star Fort Golf Club in Green-wood, and Emerald Bay Golf Club in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Mr. Smith was committed to his Christian faith and his love for Jesus was evident in all that he did. A devoted father and husband, Ken had a passion for life and for others. He was a member of Grace Community Church serving as a Praise Tea member, Director of the Counseling Department, Director of Intercessory Prayer, Choir member, Sunday School teacher, and developer of Free to be Me Seminars. He was active in the Green-wood community as a member of the National Homebuilders' Association serving as Chairman of the Annual Bass Fishing Tournament. After moving to Florida in May, 2001, Ken and Anita founded Freedom Ministries International affiliated with the healing house network of Proclaiming His Word Ministries.

His family includes his wife, Anita R. Smith; his son Dr. Scott William Smith and daughter-in-law Catherine Smith of Green-wood, SC; his son Steven Lee Smith and daughter-in-law Angela Smith of Charlotte, NC; his daughter Shari Ann Griffin and husband Bradley Griffin of Atlanta, GA; his son Jonathan McKinley Smith of Greenwood, SC; and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be made to [Fishers of Men] Ministry c/o Grace Community Church, 8611 Woodlawn Road, Greenwood, SC 29649.1
