SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Charles Michael Sharpless, 59, Schaumburg, and formerly of LaPorte and Goshen, Ind., died Monday morning, (Feb. 28, 2000) at North West Community Hospital, Arlington Heights, Ill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at LaPorte Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, and from 10 a.m. until services at the church.

He was born May 6, 1940, in Chicago to Charles Hall and Elda (Hutton) Sharpless. His mother survives in Schaumburg. In 1985, in Rockton, Ill., he married Gayle Albert, who survives.

Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Kimberly Borden and Jill Roberts, both of Goshen; one stepson, Jeffrey Yoder, Fort Wayne; nine step-grandchildren; one sister, Julie Dean Kessler, LaPorte; one brother, Jack Hall Sharpless, Tallahassee, Fla.; and two nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Sharpless made and produced video historical documentaries and was a pianist, composer and performer of music.

In 1958, he graduated from LaPorte High School and attended Indiana University and Harvard University. He performed with the LaPorte Little Theater, Dunes Summer Theater and the Munster Summer Theater.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
