HOWARD SHIRER


    Howard Edwin "Dutch" Shirer, 74, of 176 E. Main St., South Zanesville, died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at his home following a 15-month illness.


    Mr. Shirer, who lived at South Zanesville address since 1950, was an employee of Dutro Motors for 46 years. He was a member of the Methodist faith and the Antique Auto Racing Association and was an Air Force veteran of World War II serving in the African and European theaters.


    He was born Feb. 19 1911, in Westmoreland County, Pa., a son of Ina Gardner Shirer of 540 Bald Hill Road and the late Wilmer J. Shirer.


    A brother, Rollin G. Shirer, died in May 1984.


    Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Johnson Shirer; two sisters, Mrs. John (Betty) Ardrey of 2655 Adamsville Road, Alice R. Shirer of 550 Bald Hill Road; five brothers, W. Ralph Shirer of Adamsville, Robert W. Shirer of Sonora Road, Billy J. Shirer of Deerfield Road, Thomas C. Shirer of of Deerfield Road, C. Richard Shirer of Grandview Avenue, South Zanesville; and several nieces and nephews.


    Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at William Thompson and Son Funeral Home in White Cottage. - Pd. Notice.

    Services for Howard Edwin "Dutch" Shirer, 74, of 176 E. Main St., South Zanesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at William Thompson and Son Funeral Home in White Cottage with Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Burial will be held in Memorial Park. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
