Born in Akron on April 27, 1919, he served in the Army during World War II. He was Past Master of E.F. Shaeffer Lodge, a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church, a member of Mt. Vernon Elks, and a lifelong avid golfer. "Bill, we'll miss you and your loving shoulder."

Preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Riggs, he is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Evelyn (Carlson); daughters, Timmie L. Moretz of Lantana, Fla., Karen S. Thomas of Crossville, Tenn., Leslie (Tony) Marino of Akron, Patricia (David) Strunk of Crossville, Tenn., Marilyn (Joseph) Kacsanek of Uniontown; stepchildren, Judy VanSickle of Stow and Thomas R. Legge of Durham, N.C.; sister, Lois Watson of East Grenwich, R.I.; brother James (Dolores) Wilson of Millersburg, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schlup-Pucak Funeral Chapel, Kenmore Boulevard at Eighth Street, where funeral services will follow at 9 p.m., with Rev. Jan Sweet officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Shaeffer Lodge will hold a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
