News/Obit 16 April 2004  "TOGETHER AGAIN'' -- Freda Galloway Cargould

Heaven became a more beautiful place when our dearest mother and grandmother, Freda Galloway Cargould, 89, peacefully slept away on April 13, 2004. She joins her beloved husband, Milan, who passed away on Jan. 12, 2004.

The daughter of Fred and Maude Galloway, Freda was born in North Hampton Township on July 15, 1914, and lived in Hudson for most of her life.

On Dec. 9, 1939, Milan and Freda married; they raised two sons, Frank and Ernie. Faith and family were her life. She loved to watch "her boys'' working on projects together. She got a kick out of the three of them with their heads together figuring out how to fix the tractor, or the lawnmower or any other project they had ready for Saturdays. Saturdays were also pancake breakfast days, and Sundays were church and visits with family and friends. Every summer Granny would pack the six grandchildren up for a day at Geauga Lake Park. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Freda earned a varsity letter in basketball for Hudson High School and graduated from there in 1931. She attended Kent State University, majoring in journalism, and also studied at the Actual Business College and Akron University, where she took several banking courses. Freda worked for eight years for the Hudson Times, with four of those years as editor-manager. At the age of 40, she pursued a banking career, retiring from the First National Bank of Akron in March 1981 with 27 years of service. She was one of the first female assistant vice presidents of First National.

Granny was gentle, kind, loving, and sweet. She loved children, butterflies and birds, flowers, and all animals. Granny fed the birds and every stray cat that came to the door. Goldie still has the distinction of being the biggest, ugliest, best-fed cat in the neighborhood.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, William and Francis. Granny will be missed so much by her sons and their families, Frank and Lainie, and Ernie and Kathy; grandchildren, Tim, Ronalee, Lisa, Mac, Maria, Lana, Fritz, and Casey; great-grandchildren, Carly, Dylan, Hunter, Cody, and Taylor; her brother, Merrill; and special friend and cousin, Richard Housley.

Calling hours at the McGowan-Reid & Santos Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 16, with services on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Northlawn in Cuyahoga Falls, with Rev. Verlin Barnett officiating. (McGowan-Reid & Santos, 330-928-1313.) An Anthony Family Funeral Home
