News/Obit* 14 January 2004  Milan Dallas Cargould

Our beloved, Milan Dallas Cargould, 93, departed this life on Jan. 12, 2004, at Akron City Hospital, after an illness of two weeks.

The son of Frank and Daisy Cargould, Milan was born in North Hampton Township on Feb. 12, 1910, and lived in Hudson for most of his life. Milan played football for Hudson High School, graduating from there in 1930. During World War II Milan worked as a machinist, continuing with Vaughn Machinery for 29 years. He also was employed by the Hudson School System, where he drove a bus.

On Dec. 9, 1939, he married his dear wife, Freda. They raised two sons, Frank and Ernie, on a beautiful farm in Hudson. Faith and family were most important to him. He loved being with his boys. His face would light up as they worked together on so many projects.

Pa's cabin by the lake was his pride and joy, he and Freda loved to drive his golf cart back to the lake to enjoy the fall colors and abundant wildlife. An avid reader of many interests, he particularly liked reading about the Civil War and the American Indian. We loved hearing about his cross-country driving adventure in his Model T where he visited Oregon, California, and Mexico. Many of his stories have become family classics, especially the story that began -- "Did I ever tell you about my fifty-foot putt . . ." or the "AM-FM radio . . ." His sense of humor kept all of us entertained. Sunday afternoons found him watching NASCAR races or golf and visiting with his friend, Richard.

Pa's deep faith was an important part of him. In his early days, he worshiped at Steels Corners Christian Church, where his family was one of the founding church builders. In his later life, he enjoyed attending Bailey Road Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald, and his sisters, Blanche and Lulu. Pa will be missed so much by his partner, wife, and friend of 64 years, Freda, and his sons and their families, Frank and Lainie, and Ernie and Kathy; grandchildren, Tim, Ronalee, Lisa, Mac, Maria, Lana, Fritz, and Casey; great-grandchildren, Carly, Dylan, Hunter, Cody, and Taylor; his brother, Bernard; and special friends, Donnie Cargould and Richard Housley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at the McGowan Reid & Santos Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls (one block north of Portage Trail on Third Street). The family will receive friends Friday, 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, one hour prior to services, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Northlawn in Cuyahoga Falls. The Reverend Charles Mills of the Bailey Road Christian Church will officiate. (McGowan-Reid & Santos, 330-928-1313.) An Anthony Family Funeral Home
