Flags flew at half mast today on all buildings in the city in tribute to Shearn Moody, 40, young Galveston capitalist who died early this morning from pneumonia. Funeral services for the brilliant financier, member of Texas pioneer families, will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence in Cedar Lawn, with Dr. W. F. Bryan, pastor of the first Methodist Church, officiating. Moody was stricken on Feb. 20. following a business trip to New York and Chicago. His condition became critical and he was placed in an oxygen tent but sank into a coma from which he did not rally. He died at 2:45 o'clock this morning. Following funeral services from the Cedar Lawn residence The body will be placed in a vault of the old city cemetery. Active pallbearers included: Robert A. Lyons Jr., John B. Mills, A. A. Horne, H. A. Merrill, George Heyer of Houston, Claude D. Teer of Austin, C. Hy Adams, A. L. Parker, A. T. Whayne and Roy J. Koebler. Moody is survived by his widow, tow sons, Shearn Moody Jr., and Robert Lee Moody; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Moody Jr; one brother, W. L. Moody III; two sisters, Mrs. E. C. Northen and Mrs. Clark W. Thompson. Moody was born in Galveston Nov. 2, 1895, he was educated in the public and private schools of the city, later attending Culver Military Institute, Culver, Ind., Lawrenceville School. Lawrenceville, N. J., and Evans School, Mesa, Arizona. Moody, like his father, W. L. Moody Jr., and his grandfather, Col. W. L. Moody, was active in the progress and development of the city. Since early manhood he had participated actively in the management and expansion of the vast Moody enterprises and was known throughout Texas as one of the states ablest and most successful young business men. The Moody family has been active in the business and civic life of Galveston since 1866. Moody was an officer and director of many of the important corporations of the city, including the American Printing Company, the News Publishing Company, , the National Hotel Company and the banking firm of W. L. Moody and Company in which he was partner with his father. On Aug. 26, 1931 Moody married Miss Frances Russell of Dallas at San Diego, Cal. They went on a world cruise immediately following their marriage.
