Mrs. Emma Barrus, 82, a longtime resident of the Clarksville community, died Saturday, April 10, at Zephyrhills, Florida where she made her home in recent Years. Her death occured in the Lakeland, Florida hospital.

She was born June 5, 1888 in Kimball, Souith Dakota, the daughter of Sarah Doty and William L. McCrery. The family moved from Kimball to a farm west of Clarksville.

On September 2, 1928, she was united in marriage to Chris F. Shirer. They lived a few years on the McCrery farm and then built a home west of Town. After Mr. Shirer's death in 1944, Emma moved to Clarksville where she made her home until 1951 when she moved to Zephyrhills.

On October 8, 1957 she was married to F. M. Barrus of Beloit, Wisconsin. Mr. Barrus died in April of 1964.

Survivors are her sister, Mae McCrery of Zephyrhills; two stepsons, Donald Barrus of Elm Grove, Wisc. and Warner Barrus of Laguna Hills, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mrs Virginia Kersting of Alhambra, Calif.; two stepgrandsons, William Shirer of Belmond, Iowa and Robert Shirer of Omaha, Neb.

Mrs. Barrus was a Prebyterian member of the Clarcksville Community Church prior to transferring her membership to the Presbyterian Church in Zephyrhills where she was a charter member. Records of the Clarksville Presbyterian Church show that Samuel McCrery and his wife, Emma's grandparents, were among the "initial members" when the church was organized in 1854.

She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral services were held in Clarksville Wednesday afternoon at the Community Church with Rev. F. E. Brown officiating. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery. The Schwartz Funeral Home was in charge of the local arrangements.
