HUDSON – There will be graveside services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boardman for Stella M. Maikranz, 86, formerly of Hubbard, who passed away Thursday at Hudson Elms Nursing Home, where she had lived for the last 11 months.

Stella was born Aug. 30, 1920 in Coitsville on the site of the current William H. McGuffey Boyhood Homestead. She was a daughter of William and Bessie Fiedler Brownlee, who are both buried in Jackson Cemetery in Coitsville, and the granddaughter of a Northern Civil War veteran.

She attended Geography Hall in Coitsville through 8th grade and then graduated from South High School in 1938. She lived in Hubbard from 1952 through 2004.

Stella was a manager/buyer of all women’s clothing departments for Strouss’ department store in Youngstown during the 1950s. She was a member of the Hubbard Historical Society and had served as its president in 1991.

Her husband, William G. Maikranz Jr., whom she married Oct. 17, 1942, passed away Jan. 3, 2000.

She leaves her only son, William C. Maikranz III, and daughter-in-law, Laurie, and two granddaughters, Ana, 14, and Natalia, 11, all of Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hubbard Historical Society, c/o Betsy Thompson, 210 S. Main St., Hubbard, OH; or the Hudson Elms Nursing Home, c/o Resident Activity Department, 563 W. Streetsboro Road, Hudson, OH 44236.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Stella M. Maikranz, 86, formerly of Hubbard, died May 31 at Hudson Elms Nursing Home, where she had lived for the last 11 months.

Mrs. Maikranz was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Coitsville on the site of the William H. McGuffey Boyhood Homestead. She was the daughter of William and Bessie Fiedler Brownlee and the granddaughter of a Northern Civil War Veteran.
