| News/Obit* | 13 April 2005 | Thomas Gaumer Obit NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Thomas C. "Tom" Gaumer, 75, of Newcomerstown, passed away at the family residence in Newcomerstown late Sunday afternoon surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born Feb. 3, 1930, in Linton Township, the son of the late Chester Thomas and Harriet E. "Sue" Nay Gaumer. He was a Navy veteran, serving in Korea during the Korean War. Tom belonged to the Newcomerstown American Legion and was a member of the Newcomerstown Veterans' Honor Guard. He was a member of the Newcomerstown Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Tom retired in 1992 from the former GenCorp Co. in Newcomerstown. Tom devoted his life to his family, raising his nine children. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Tom enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing and loved country music. He also displayed strong pride and love for his country throughout his life. Tom was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. Gaumer of Newcomerstown, who died in 1979. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeannie A. Doss Gaumer of Newcomerstown, whom he married Oct. 10, 1951. Tom also is survived by five daughters, Susan E. (Ron) Ormond of Humbird, Wis., Connie D. (Earl L.) Remy of Coshocton, Marla J. Noel of Gilmore, and Judy G. (Jack L.) Duff and Marjie Gaumer of Newcomerstown; three sons, Bruce A. Gaumer of Cambridge and Chester T. "Chet" (Kim) Gaumer and Tim P. Gaumer of Newcomerstown; and eight grandchildren. Tom also was preceded in death by his beloved Black Labrador, Mitzi. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Ourant Funeral Home. Charles Newell will conduct the services. Military services conducted by the Newcomerstown Veterans' Honor Guard will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening following the services. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. To honor his family's requests, his remains are to be cremated and buried in Birmingham Cemetery, Guernsey County, at a later date. The family is suggesting memorials be made to Health Services of Coshocton County (Coshocton Hospice), P.O. Box 1284, Coshocton, OH 43812; the Coshocton County Animal Shelter or the Newcomerstown Veterans' Honor Guard, 623 S. River St., Newcomerstown, OH 43832.
