Note*   William was a cousin of Winney's former husband Joseph Leydig. He was the son of Daniel and Mary Leydig.

One of the first subscription schools in Butler Co., Kansas was taught at William M. Leydigs cabin.

Wounded at the battle of Missionary Ridge. He would carry the bullet the rest of his life and it would eventually cause his death.
