William Aaron Gaumer, 82, of 5598 Smith Creek Road in New Market, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Tandem Health Care in Woodstock.

Mr. Gaumer was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Alexandria, and was the son of the late William A. Gaumer Sr. and Stella Mae Gaumer.

He was a veteran of World War II and a retired painting contractor. He was a member and past commander of the Hassler-Sutphin American Legion Post No. 166 of New Market and a member of the New Market Rescue Squad.

On Sept. 21, 1938, he married the former Vivian Leola Walker, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Bradley of Mount Vernon; two sons, William L. Gaumer and Jerry E. Gaumer, both of New Market; a sister, Goldie Collins of Annandale; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Theis Funeral Chapel in New Market.
