John Leonard Baugous

John Leonard Baugous was born on March 20, 1931 at
Homer, Nebraska to Ralph and Marie Baugous. He was
brought up on a farm near Homer and graduated from
the local high school in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1952-1954 and was sent to
Korea in the infantry medics.

After his separation from the armed forces, John attended Union College at Lincoln, Nebraska where he
graduated in 1959 receiving a B.S. degree in Education.

That same year he married Dovie Lou Firestone, and
to this union were born three children; Birdie Marie,
Robin Ann, and Leonard l'on, who was a special
Christmas present from the Lord.

John completed most of the requirements for a
Masters degree at Andrews University. John served as
principal of the following schools:

Roswell, NM (4 years)
Albuquerque, NM (2 years)
Portales, NM (3 years)
Albuquerque, NM (8 years)
Sandia View (3 years)
Houston Junior Academy (since 1977)

John passed away at Houston, Texas, February 25,
1980, after an illness that afflicted him for 17 years. The doctors expected him to pass away in a very short time 17 years ago, but John asked God to grant him the longevity of life to help raise his two daughters. The Lord answered his prayer and as an answer to further prayer granted him a little longer so that his fine son might attain an age so that he could adjust well without a father's influence.

Those who survive John Baugous include: his wife,
Dovie Lou Baugous, a daughter, Mrs. Birdie Marie
Duracheck, another daughter, Miss Robin Ann Baugous and his son, Leonard l'on. His father, Ralph Baugous, being 84 years of age, a sister, Mrs. Ruth Soderquist of Axtell, Neb. , a brother, William Baugous of Lemars, Neb. , another sister, Mrs. Marion Brown of Rosalie, Neb., and a beautiful little granddaughter who was his pride and joy, Michal Renee Durachek.

John's mother and a brother preceded him in death.

Dovie said that in 20 years of marriage John was never angry with her. His brother, Bill, said that in all his life he only saw John angry one time. That was when he saw a gross injustice being done to a defenseless person.

John was a kind and loving husband and father. He
had a cheerful disposition and he loved everyone.3
