Rufus I. Mankey, 73, died unexpectedly Aug. 30, 1986 at his home.

He was born in Lima, and had been an Akron resident for most of his life. He was employed by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for over 34 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple. Mr. Mankey was a charter member of the F&AM Tallmadge Lodge No. 756, which he served as Worshipful Master in 1965. He demitted from the Valley of Cleveland Scottish Rite to the Valley of Akron, becoming a charter member in 1958. He served as Sovereign Prince of Adar Council in 1972 and had served the Valley of Akron as Hospitaler since 1971 and had directed the 15th Degree for several years. He received the Meritorious Service Award in 1976 and had the Spring Reunion Class of 1980 named in his honor. He was welcomed in the 33rd Degree in 1985. He was also a member and past president of the Akron High Twelve Club, the Tadmor Temple Shrine Past Master's Unit and Shrine Hospital Club, the Fernleaf Chapter No. 422 Eastern Star, and was a member of the DeMolay Legion of Honor. He was a member and past president of the International Toastmaster's Club and the Orthodox Square Club.

He is survived by wife, Estella; daughters, Mrs. Gene (Frances) Barnes of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. George (Judyann) Schnorf of Mount Pleasant, S. C.; brother, William of Bucyrus; sisters, Eloise McCracken of Bucyrus, Catherine Montgomery of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the Akron Baptist Temple, where the body will lie in state one hour prior to services, Rev. Paul Outland officiating. Interment Northlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends TONIGHT, 7 to 9, and Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kucko-Anthony Funeral Home, where Masonic services will be held Tuesday, 7 p.m. Donations may be made to the Tadmor Summit County Hospital Club, care of S.
