Mrs. Firestone died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Willamette Valley Medical Center. She was 82.

Born May 8, 1922, in Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of Nels John and Emma Caroline Andersen Sjoberg. As a teenager, she moved to Los Angeles and graduated from school there.

She married James Strickland on Jan. 1, 1942, in Phoenix, Ariz. She worked in the shipyards during World War II, then returned to Phoenix and lived there as a homemaker until 1962.

She moved to a Gaston-area farm in 1962. She moved to Lafayette in 1969 and McMinnville in 1973. She worked as a certified nursing aide at Providence Newberg Hospital and later Oakwood Country Place, retiring in 1978.

Mr. Strickland died in 1983. Nine years later, on June 21, 1992, she married Burren Firestone in a McMinnville ceremony. He also preceded her in death.

She enjoyed baking, crocheting and sewing. She liked to shop, especially for shoes and purses. She loved spending time with her children, her grandchildren and her cat Tabby.

Mrs. Firestone had been a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church since 1971. A granddaughter, Roseanna Lodsdon, was her faithful caregiver during the last months of her life, the family said.

She is survived by three daughters, Terrie Rickerd of Amity, Dorothy Wampler of Forest Grove and Carolin Johns of McMinnville; two stepsons, Steve Firestone of Sheridan and Harvey Firestone of Salem; and 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Rae Strickland; a stepson, Morris Firestone; and two sisters, Gladys Prout and Dorris Williams.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Oregon, care of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.1
