George Washington Gaumer was raised with the Shirar children due to the death of his mother in childbirth. His mother was Elizabeth Allbaugh, who was a younger sister of Celinda Allbaugh. His father was Peter Gaumer, who was the nephew of Lydia (Gaumer) Shirar.4
