Robert H. Shirey


    CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Robert Henry Shirey, 75, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.


    Born Sept. 17, 1925, in Bard, Pa., he was the son of the late Dewey William and Elsie Mae Stuby Shirey.


    He retired from William Hazel Construction Co. He was a jockey at Charles Town Races and in Florida.


    He was of the Baptist faith.


    He was a member of the American Rifle Association.


    He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth May Shirey; a stepson, Charles James Taylor of Jessup, Md.; three stepdaughters, Arleen Mullikin and Ina May Trowell, both of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Joy Elkins of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Donald Shirey of Valmeyer Ill., and George Washington Shirey of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Mary Beagle of Bedford, Pa., and Doris Shirey; four stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.


    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl William Shirey and Ray Shirey; and two sisters, Sara May Morgraff and Irene Rankin.


     Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Funeral Home in Ranson. Pastor Charles D. Coley will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va.


    The family will receive friends Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
