SENATE RESOLUTION

In Memory
of
Dr. Douglas Morgan Dennis


     WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
family and many friends of Dr. Douglas Morgan Dennis of Goldthwaite
in mourning the loss of this distinguished citizen and community
leader who died on January 21, 1993; and

     WHEREAS, Douglas Morgan Dennis was born on February 1, 1934,
in Dimmitt to Morgan and Geneva Dennis; he and Mona Burts were
married on September 7, 1958, in Channelview, Texas; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dennis attended Dimmitt public schools; he
was quarterback for his high school football team as well as a
member of his school's championship basketball team in his senior
year; in addition, he was valedictorian of the 1952 graduating
class at Dimmitt High School; and

     WHEREAS, Douglas Dennis graduated cum laude from
Baylor University in 1956 with a bachelor of science degree
in psychology; he graduated with honors from the Baylor University
School of Medicine in Houston in 1960; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dennis began his practice of medicine in
Wichita Falls before moving to Goldthwaite in 1970; and

     WHEREAS, This respected doctor's varied and notable
accomplishments contributed to the wealth and progress of his
community; he was a member of the Goldthwaite Independent School
District Board of Trustees for six years, serving as president and
vice president; and

     WHEREAS, He was an active supporter of the athletic program
and contributed countless hours of community service supporting
local programs; and

     WHEREAS, A man of great ability and unquestioned integrity,
Dr. Dennis will be remembered forever in the hearts of those with
whom he worked and lived; he will be greatly missed; now, therefore,
be it

     RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
of his family: his wife, Mona; his sons, Captain Brent Dennis and
Lieutenant Eric Dennis; his mother, Geneva Alice Dennis; his brother,
Edgar M. Dennis; and his sister, Decimae Dennis; and, be
it further

     RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Dr. Douglas Morgan Dennis.
