· Death of Willmer V. Ames

Dear Alumni,

I am writing with the sad news of Willmer Ames’ death. Willmer was one of Wanake’s closest neighbors, who physically supported Wanake with his skill in excavation and roadway care. The construction of Arnold Lake, excavation for the composting toilet and handwashing sink in woods, Knoll Pond, dredging Arnold Lake, and roadway care even as recent as the fall of 2009, are among Willmer’s contributions to the ministry at Wanake. In addition Willmer always made a point to check on Wanake and the resident staff after large storms or floods. In his younger years he would even fly over Wanake after storms to see how the dams were holding and check on other damage.

In December of 2003 Willmer and his wife Pearl sold their farm to Wanake (East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church). The farm adjoins Wanake property south of the Wanake lane along route 93. Plans for development of this property will begin to take a more prominent role in the Wanake master plan.

Information from Willmer’s obituary is printed below and includes information about the funeral and calling hours. Please join me in prayer for Willmer’s family and friends as we grieve the loss of a wonderful person.

In Christ,

Julie Lautt
